P.C. Soundaraj, a distinguished alumnus of SVN College where he completed his B.Sc in Mathematics and DCP in 1980, embarked on a remarkable journey in photography with divine inspiration from Isaiah 40:31. The name “KARUDENPHOTOS” was bestowed upon him by Pastor Rev. Daniel Manoharan and brought to life by Pandian Printing Press, Coimbatore.

In 1985, Soundaraj’s father, Mr. Paul Chellaiah Periya Karupanadar, inaugurated the first studio at Thathaneri Main Road, opposite ESI Hospital, Madurai. This foundation was followed by the opening of the first main branch in 1986 at Goripalayam near Thevar Statue, Madurai, by Mr. Thagarajan, proprietor of Shanti Electricals.

Continuing this legacy, the first branch at U.C. High School building near Kattabomman Statue, Periyar Bus Stand, Madurai, was established in 1995 by Soundaraj’s mother, Mrs Mary Teacher, alongside Mr K. Arivannantha Pandian, Area Commander of the Police Department. In 2005, the second branch at Kremmer Puram Complex, near Madura Coats, New Jail Main Road, Madurai, was opened by Mr Rajendran of Madura Coats.

By 2024, P.C. Soundaraj had achieved notable recognition, serving as the President of the Madurai District Photo Studio Sangam (Reg. 1969) and Senior Planning Officer (Traffic) at TPTW. His enduring commitment to excellence continues to shape the legacy of KARUDENPHOTOS.
